The Guji region, located in southern Ethiopia, is renowned for its exceptional coffee. Once considered part of the Sidama region, Guji became recognized as its own distinct coffee-producing area in the early 2000s. This region is characterized by its lush, forested landscapes and high altitudes, which contribute to the unique flavor profiles of its coffee.
Guji coffee is typically grown in rich, red volcanic soil, often at altitudes ranging from 1,850 to 2,000 meters above sea level. The region's microclimates and traditional farming methods, such as intercropping coffee plants with other crops, enhance the coffee's complexity. Most farms in Guji are small, family-owned plots, and the coffee is often organic by default due to minimal use of fertilizers or pesticides.
The natural processing methods used in Guji further highlight the coffee's fruity and floral notes, making it a favorite among specialty coffee enthusiasts. This region's dedication to quality and tradition ensures a truly remarkable coffee experience.
