Grupo Terruño Nayarita (GTNay) is a society of over 400 coffee producers in the Mexican state of Nayarit. They are committed to growing coffee of consistently high quality while maintaining socially and environmentally responsible standards.
Origin Story
From Mexico's Pacific Coast up to the Sierra Madre Mountains, Nayarit is an agricultural state with stunning geologic diversity. The convergence of altitude, volcanic soil, and sparse population creates numerous microclimates suitable for coffee cultivation. Working as a co-op, GTNay allows coffee producers and their communities to have more negotiating power for bank loans, organizational memory, access to shared resources, and increased risk tolerance.
A Unique Bio-Factory
GTNay also operates a unique bio-factory at their headquarters in Tepic. Run like a micro-enterprise within the organization, this facility offers members organic soil products, fertilizers, and pest control organisms. During the 2023 harvest, for the first time, producers applied these products directly to the soil at the base of their coffee trees, resulting in significantly improved yields.
